What is the Consumer Duty Champion Role?
The Consumer Duty Champion is—if appointed—a Board or equivalent senior leader who supports the Chair and CEO in making sure the FCA’s Consumer Duty is actively considered in strategic decisions and ongoing governance. The Champion offers independent challenge to the Board and management, helping to embed a customer outcomes focus into your culture and processes. Although from 27 February 2025 there’s no longer a mandatory FCA expectation to appoint a Champion, many firms find the role valuable for keeping Consumer Duty central to their approach.
